Persistence Leads to a New Job and a New Life
“When I made the decision to leave a difficult situation, the non-profit organization assisting me referred me to the Workforce Resource Center for employment help. They were quick to respond and gave me a much-needed boost. There, Stephanie reviewed my resume and gave me some great pointers. The informative conversations with her and the daycare staff set me at ease. Thankfully, I started my new job as a Social Media Manager in about 6 weeks’ time. I wish I knew about these community programs years ago. Now, I’m able to focus on my daughter, work, and other important matters. These Loudoun County services have made my life meaningful and manageable again.”

Spotlight on International Language Academy (ILA)
With Dana Saif, EML, Founder & Executive Director of the International Language Academy
Could you briefly describe for our readers the range of English language programs offered through ILA? ILA offers a wide range of language and workforce training programs that are open to all and not limited to English Language Learners only. ILA’s workforce classes help job seekers improve their communication and problem-solving skills. Our computer classes focus on enhancing students’ technical skills to better adapt to the current job market and working online.
How has ILA adapted in delivering programs during the pandemic? ILA launched its ILA Live program in March 2020. It’s been a great success for students who want to study comfortably from their homes and attend live classes. Our online courses are engaging, interactive, and user friendly. Students can easily access their classes from their phones, tablets, and/or computers. Learners engage in real-time with teachers and other students, learning through practice, presentations, and small class participation.
What are the typical characteristics of your students who attend ILA programs? ILA students are highly diverse and motivated. Being ambitious, eager to learn and to improve are characteristics of all our students. Some of our students join our training programs to get the technical and practical skills they need to succeed in the workplace, especially with everything being done online during the pandemic. We also welcome students who are strengthening their English language proficiency.
Language proficiency is obviously so important to be successful in any career path. What have some of your successful ILA students gone on to do after completing training? Some of our alumni have further their education at our partner universities, later earning their bachelor’s or master’s degree. At the same time, other ILA students have successfully landed jobs in the customer service, retail, education, legal or medical sector due to their prior training and improved English skills.
If someone wants to know more about ILA or how to get started, what should they do? Getting started at ILA is easy. Simply visit our website, www.ila.edu, for more information about our programs, or give us a call at 703-712-8002. Our staff are friendly and can help you in English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, Arabic, Farsi, and Urdu. Reach out any time by emailing us at info@ila.edu.
