Loudoun County Landfill Closing Early Friday, April 19, 2024

The Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility will close two hours early, at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, April 19, 2024. The early closure is necessary to accommodate an all-staff training meeting. The landfill will resume normal operations Saturday, April 20, at 8:00 a.m.

Food Waste Composting Drop-Off Center at Landfill

Loudoun County accepts food waste at the Food Waste Composting Drop-Off Center at the landfill. The one-year pilot program, launched in November 2023, is intended for residents who are interested in composting their household food scraps such as fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy products, pasta, eggshells and coffee grounds. Quantities accepted are limited to one 5-gallon container or an equivalent amount, per customer, per week.

Landfill Temporarily Stops Accepting Tires

The Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility temporarily stopped accepting waste tires at the county landfill effective September 26, 2023, because the facility had reached its permitted limit for scrap tires. Updates will be posted here.

Propane Tank Information

The landfill accepts propane tanks for recycling for a fee. The landfill accepts tanks from 1 to 20 pounds, including standard gas grill-sized propane tanks as well as smaller tanks commonly used for camping stoves and propane torches. Empty tanks as well as any containing propane are accepted for $3 each plus the facility's $7 minimum per vehicle. While disposal of smaller empty tanks may be an option through regular household refuse collection service, empty or filled tanks brought to the landfill can be safely managed for recycling.

Commercial Construction/Demolition Waste

All commercial haulers, contractors, businesses, or institutions delivering Commercial Construction/Demolition waste (CDD) are required to provide written documentation of waste origin upon arrival to confirm that loads are coming from sources located within Loudoun County. Acceptable documentation includes, but is not limited to, property owner/customer affidavit, construction permits, notice of award, work order, or signed quotes.

For additional information, please review the CDD Documentation Memo (PDF) or call our office at 703-771-5500.
