Route 7 Shared Use Path

Overview

  • The project involves the design and construction of a 10-foot-wide shared use path along the north side of Route 7 between Campus Drive (Route 391) the entrance of the Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) – Loudoun Campus (Algonkian, VA) to Lakeland Drive (Route 821) approximately 1,500 feet west of the Loudoun County Line in Sterling, Va.  The total length of the proposed shared use path is approximately 1.3 miles (6,700 feet).  
  • This project is part of the Route 7 pedestrian improvements which funds improvements to three pedestrian crossings – Bartholomew Fair Drive, Potomac View Road and Lakeland Drive - along Route 7.

Current Status:  April 2022

  • The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) approved a design waiver for the buffer strip width at intersection approaches and right turn lanes.
  • For the next several weeks, the design team will continue developing 60% design plans and incorporating additional field survey information into the design.
  • In February, the Board of Supervisors endorsed the project's major design elements. 
  • Project design is estimated to be completed in winter 2023.
