Staff are currently processing permit applications that were submitted on or after the following dates. Dates vary by permit category.  

  • Inquiries about the status of an existing permit
  • Requirement for permits and other inquiries
    • If you have questions regarding what is required to submit a permit application, please call 703-777-0220.  All other inquiries should be submitted via a Loudoun Express Request (LEx).

Permit processing updates by permit type

Residential

  • Building: May 14
  • **Zoning: April 5
    • Includes: New Construction, Accessory Dwelling -  New Construction, New Construction from Masterfile, Masterfile & Revision, Accessory Dwelling - Alteration or Change of Use.
  • Building Alterations: April 9
  • **Zoning Alterations: April 23
    • Includes: Addition, Accessory Dwelling, Agricultural, Alteration, Change of Use, Child Home Care, Demolition, Home Occupation, Miscellaneous Structures, Occupancy Only, Pools, Repair, Replacement
  • Residential Trades: May 13 (No zoning permit review required)
  • County Typical Decks (Building & Zoning): May 6
  • County Typical Basements (Building & Zoning): April 22

Commercial

  • Commercial New Construction Building: May 14
    • **Zoning: February 9
  • Commercial Addition/Alteration/Change of Use/Tenant Fit-Up: May 7 
    • **Zoning: February 9
  • Commercial Trades: April 8 (No zoning permit review required).

Zoning Permits Currently in Review

Staff is working as quickly as possible to move permits currently showing “in review” to the next phase of workflow.  If you are still waiting on a permit that was created** prior to one of the dates above, please contact Building and Development at 703-777-0220, option 1, or submit a permit status inquiry form.


Applied Dates on Zoning Permits

**All zoning permits created from the building permit application have an application date after the building permit application date. This date is assigned by the LandMARC system during the intake process for the building permit application. For example, the BLDR (building permit) shown below was applied for on January 3 and the ZONR (zoning permit), found under Sub-Records, shows an applied date of January 7.
