Emergency Plans Review

Background

Emergencies can occur with little-to-no warning requiring immediate action to protect life and property. In accordance with the Code of Virginia §44-146.19, the Loudoun County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has the authority to review and suggest amendments to the emergency plans of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day care centers, and child day care centers within Loudoun County. The plans review process is intended to bolster preparedness and assist care providers in developing and maintaining their emergency plans.

Process

The Office of Emergency Management will review your existing emergency plan against criteria set forth through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. A follow-up site visit or phone call will then be conducted to discuss findings and answer questions. A final report with recommendations will be issued to your organization for implementation.

While recommendations are intended to enhance your emergency plan, the statute does not compel you to make additions to your plan beyond what is required by your licensing standards.

Evacuation Plans

Evacuation plans are reviewed by the Loudoun County's Fire Marshal's Office.

CMS Final Rule

On November 16, 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new emergency requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers. The purpose is to establish national emergency preparedness requirements to ensure adequate planning for both natural and man-made disasters, and coordination with federal, state, tribal, regional and local emergency preparedness systems. For more information, visit the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website.
