Celebrate pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect their natural habitat at the Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Pollinator Festival. This free family-friendly festival will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve.

The Pollinator Festival helps kick off National Pollinator Week and includes fun hands-on activities, educational exhibits, festival games, hayrides, and learning activities for the whole family.

The Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve is located at 21085 The Woods Road, Leesburg, and is a designated Virginia Treasure. Only a short drive from downtown Leesburg, the preserve is nestled alongside two miles of Goose Creek, a State Scenic River. The preserve’s 695 acres of forests, succession fields, ponds, and streams provide residents the chance to explore and experience the exceptional beauty of Loudoun’s natural habitats, wetlands, and waterways.

The Pollinator Festival will be hosted rain or shine. In the case of severe weather, a cancellation notice will be posted on the Loudoun County website at loudoun.gov/prcs and PRCS social media accounts. Available parking is limited; consider traveling as a group to the event.

National Pollinator Week was established in 2006 when the U.S. Senate’s unanimous approval and designation of a week in June as “National Pollinator Week” marked a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. National Pollinator Week has grown into an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats, and beetles. In addition, the Board of Supervisors has proclaimed the week of June 19-25, 2023, as Pollinator Week in Loudoun County.

Throughout the year, PRCS provides programs and spaces for environmental stewardship and fosters sustainability practices through conservation awareness and education. Learn more about PRCS’ facilities, parks, and programs at loudoun.gov/prcs.
