[ARCHIVED] Evergreen Mills Equestrian and Hiking Trail Reopens

Graphic with Parks Update

Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) is pleased to announce the reopening of the Evergreen Mills Equestrian and Hiking Trail.

The trail is located at 21332 Marcum Farm Court, Leesburg, and consists of a four-mile (eight-miles in-and-out) multiuse trail for horses, hikers/walkers, and mountain bikers. The trailhead includes available parking for horse trailers.

Earlier this year a team of volunteers along with PRCS staff helped clear the trail as part of the countywide Linear Parks and Trails (LPAT) plan. In July 2021, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the LPAT plan, which will provide an interconnected, countywide linear parks and trails system. The LPAT plan offers a roadmap for the county and its partners to build out an interconnected system that protects natural and cultural resources, honors Loudoun County’s unique sense of place, and connects residents to each other and to the county’s natural and cultural landscapes, communities, and destinations. The plan seeks to provide multi-use experiences along its corridors for hikers, walkers, nature enthusiasts, runners, equestrians, cyclists, and canoe and kayak paddlers.

 Background:

The original Evergreen Mills Equestrian and Hiking Trail initially closed in 2008 for the realignment of The Woods Road. The realignment of Woods Road and subsequent closure was to accommodate future expansion of the Loudoun County landfill and to provide safe and adequate access to communities along the southern portion of Gleedsville Road.

The trail originally opened as part of a Loudoun County Pilot Equestrian Trail Program initiative that was funded in 2003.
