About the Douglass Community Center

The Douglass Community Center has served the community since 1978, offering various activities and programs for all ages, including year-round licensed preschool classes and camps.

The Douglass Community Center shares space on the newly renovated Loudoun County Public Schools Property (LCPS), The Historic Douglass High School Education & Development Campus. Large portions of the facility were renovated to honor, restore, and preserve the rich cultural significance of the building.

Douglass High School was built in 1941 and was the only Black high school in Loudoun County until integration in 1968. As a part of the renovation project, LCPS collaborated with the Douglass High School Commemorative Committee which included representatives from the Loudoun Douglass High School Alumni Association, the Edwin Washington Society, the Loudoun Branch of the NAACP and representatives from Loudoun historical organizations and commissions to ensure the school history was fully honored.

The grounds of the facility include a one-of-kind themed playground planned and commissioned by PRCS staff that focuses on the contribution and impact African Americans have made in American history.
