The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) and Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Board (PROS) is holding a public input session regarding a comprehensive, countywide linear parks and trails system. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019, at PRCS Administration, 742 Miller Drive, SE, Leesburg, Virginia 20175.
At its January 17, 2019 business meeting, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors directed the PROS Board to develop a detailed implementation plan for a countywide network of public trails and linear parks. Loudoun residents had indicated a strong desire for more passive parks, trails and recreational facilities through surveys and other forms of public input.
Members of the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Board began working with county staff and external stakeholders to organize and work out the details of this undertaking. The PROS Board held meetings in February and March with stakeholders, including representatives from the Potomac Heritage Trail Association, Loudoun Walking and Volkssport Club, Loudoun County Preservation and Conservation Coalition, Coalition of Loudoun Towns (COLT), U.S. Trail Ride, Mid-Atlantic Off Road Enthusiasts (MORE), Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC), Loudoun Water and Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy.
The April 25 public input session will consist of a brief presentation about the initiative and stakeholder meetings, small group facilitated discussions and a compilation of results, which will be shared with the Board of Supervisors this summer.
