Loudoun County is scheduled to begin work on an improvement project on West Poplar Road in Sterling Wednesday, July 31, 2019, which will remove on-street parking between South Sterling Boulevard and South Greenthorn Avenue and make that section of West Poplar Road one-way northbound.

Due to the narrow width of the roadway, current on-street parking on the east side of West Poplar Road from South Sterling Boulevard to South Greenthorn Avenue is being eliminated. Beginning July 31, 2019, any vehicles parked along that section of West Poplar Road will be towed. Signs will be posted and notifications to property owners will be sent in advance.

Also on July 31, the county’s contractor will begin a pavement marking and signage project to stripe the roadway to make it one-way northbound. The work will take place Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Temporary lane closures will occur while work is being done. Access to all properties will be maintained during the work. Motorists are advised to watch for signage as well as flaggers during the work period. The project is scheduled to be completed by September 11, 2019, weather permitting.

The improvements, as directed by the Board of Supervisors, are being implemented to improve pedestrian and motorist safety and to bring the roadway into compliance with the standards of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for acceptance into the VDOT secondary roadway system.

Questions about the project may be directed to Loudoun County Construction Program Manager Scott Worrest, of the Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure by email or by calling 571-258-3876.
