[ARCHIVED] Updated PRCS Program Status & County Response to COVID-19

Document

Earlier today, the Board of Supervisors and County officials held a news conference to discuss the county’s ongoing response to the rapidly evolving coronavirus virus situation. A replay of the news conference can be watched on the Loudoun County Government’s Facebook page.

As of today, the changes to normal department operations outlined below generally meet or exceed the recommendations of the Virginia Health Department and Centers for Disease Control in order to protect our residents and employees. The effective date for PRCS operational changes is Monday, March, 16. The duration of these changes will be determined as conditions continue to be monitored.

Senior Centers (Updated 11 p.m. March 15)

All senior centers are closed. The department will continue to provide home delivery meals services to those who are signed up as well as emergency meals delivery services to the congregate meals participants.

Adult Day Centers (Updated 8:00 p.m. March 15)

The Adult Day Centers are closed until further notice. Loudoun County has determined that the Adult Day Care program cannot guarantee the social distancing that is consistent with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Virginia Department of Health, which is necessary to protect the clients who are among the population that is most vulnerable to COVID-19.

Recreation Centers and Community Centers and Parks (Updated 11 p.m. March 15)

Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) programs are canceled and facilities are closed through at least April 1, 2020. County parks will remain open for self-directed trail and leisure use during normal operating hours; however, all park offices and athletic complexes will be closed. Routine cleaning of playground equipment will be maintained.

Loudoun County is modifying its announcement on Saturday, March 14, 2020, regarding PRCS operations based on revised guidance issued today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Upon review of the guidance, the county determined that PRCS programs and facility operations would not fall within the revised CDC guidance for gatherings of people.

Preschool and Child Care

The county’s Preschool and daycare programs that are operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services will be closed while Loudoun County Public Schools are closed.

County After School Activities (CASA) & Youth After School (YAS)

With the closure of Loudoun County Public Schools, all after-school programs, including CASA and YAS programs, are canceled while the Loudoun County Public Schools are closed.

PRCS administration in Leesburg will be open during normal operating hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The department is evaluating policies and procedures as part of the response to the rapidly evolving COVID-10 situation. Details regarding program refunds will be communicated the week of March 16.

Your patience is appreciated as the County continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation carefully and respond with measures that ensure the health and safety of citizens and employees. Stay up to date regarding PRCS operational status at facebook.com/loudounprcs.
