Round Hill to Franklin Park Trail

Overview

  • The project includes the design and construction of sidewalks and a shared-use path (pedestrian and bicycle) from the center of the Town of Round Hill to Franklin Park in western Loudoun County. In addition, the project includes county management of the Town of Round Hill’s Main Street pedestrian and streetscape project.
    • The scope of the Round Hill Main Street project includes the construction of a concrete sidewalk along the east side of Main Street, curb on both sides of the street, curb ramps, small retaining walls and storm drainage improvements.
  • Both the Round Hill to Franklin Park Trail and Round Hill Main Street projects are funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA’s) Transportation Alternatives Program under separate grants.  The Round Hill to Franklin Park Trail grant was awarded in 2000 and the Round Hill Main Street grant was awarded in 2008. 
    • Loudoun County’s Round Hill to Franklin Park Trail project is funded with local taxes and the Transportation Alternatives grant.
    • The Town of Round Hill’s Main Street project is funded with county and town taxes, and the Transportation Alternatives grant.

Current Status: September 2020

  • Three Portable Changeable Message Signs (PCMS) were placed in Round Hill indicating that water line construction work will begin on E. Loudoun Street on Monday, September 21, 2020. Members of the public will notice signage on E. Loudoun Street in front of the Sheriff’s Building, west of Round Hill in the northeast corner of Evening Star Drive, and on the northwest corner of Main Street and Evening Star Drive.
  • Clearing and grubbing is almost complete at Lakefield Road to Franklin Park Arts Center Parking lot. Sediment and Erosion Control Measures will now be installed at this location.
  • In September 2020, water line relocation will take place off of East Loudoun Street.
  • Signage is activated off of Lakefield Road to alert residents about the beginning of the Franklin Park Trail construction. The construction is estimated to begin the week of August 17, 2020.
  • Notice to Proceed with construction will be issued to Highway Safety Services, Inc. the week of August 11, 2020
  • The groundbreaking for Round Hill to Franklin Park Trail and Main Street Enhancements took place on July 28, 2020, at 4:00 p.m.
  • A construction kickoff meeting was held on June 16, 2020.
