Route 50 Safety and Operational Study

Overview

  • The project consists of a safety and operational study of approximately 14 miles of Route 50 from Northstar Boulevard to the Fauquier County line. The study will identify safety and traffic operational issues and present recommended solutions for consideration by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
  • The goal of the study is to ensure that this segment of Route 50 continues to carry local and commuter traffic safely and efficiently.
  • The study will examine existing conditions, current traffic counts, crash history and consider projected future traffic volumes.
    • These factors, combined with public involvement, will be used to identify recommended improvements that will be presented to the Board of Supervisors in fall 2024.
  • Although traffic data was collected in the Town of Middleburg, no improvements to Route 50 within the Town limits are being considered as part of this study.
  • Throughout the study, public input and focus group meetings will be held to gather feedback from the community.
