Community Service Work Program

About the Program

The Community Service Work Program was designed and implemented as a public service project in accordance with Section 16.1-279(E)(a) of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended.

Community Service Work may be ordered for three primary purposes:

  1. The youth will provide a service to others by completing community service.
  2. Community service work will serve as a consequence for delinquent behavior.
  3. Community service may be required in lieu of more restrictive penalties.

Community Service Options

After each youth and their parent/guardian sign a permission form and contract, the youth is referred to the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) to complete community service.

If working with PRCS is not an option, a non-profit organization is used as a substitute. Non-profit organizations include animal shelters, churches, thrift stores, schools, and a variety of other organizations. The youth must verify that the community service site is approved before beginning the hours.

The youth is expected to arrive on time at the assigned work site and display a willingness to help in order to complete assigned community service hours. A time-sheet is kept and when the youth has completed all work the JCSU is advised that the youth has complied with the required community service.
