Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS) will host a fee-waived pet adoption event on Saturday and Sunday, August 26 and 27, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., in participation with the nationwide, “Clear the Shelters” adoption initiative. The adoption facility is located at 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg.

Adoption fees will be waived for all available pets which includes cats, kittens, dogs, rabbits, small pets and livestock. LCAS conducts a standard adoption screening process and most adoptions can be completed in the same day. Prospective adopters can view available pets online at loudoun.gov/animals.

To date in 2023, LCAS has seen a substantial increase in animal intakes.

“So far this year, we have received over 170 animals through Humane Law Enforcement animal welfare investigations, and our overall owner surrenders are up 42%,” says Shelter Operations Manager Melissa Heard. “The increase is staggering, and with many of those animals needing additional medical or behavioral intervention prior to placement, our team is challenged to keep up with the volume.”

All dogs, cats and rabbits adopted from LCAS are spayed or neutered and receive a microchip which is registered to their adopter. Dogs and cats also receive age-appropriate vaccinations. The shelter frequently has many pets available for adoption including hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, rabbits, other small pets and livestock.

In addition to adoptions, other event activities during the “Clear the Shelters” event include a kids’ craft station and giveaways for all adopters.
