Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund

About the Fund

The Virginia Compensating Victims of Crime Act became effective on July 1, 1977, to pay unreimbursed expenses of victims who suffer personal physical injury or death as a result of a crime. The program is funded entirely by fees collected from persons convicted of felonies and certain classes of misdemeanors. No general revenue is used to support this fund. It is administered by the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission.

How to File a Claim

The Loudoun County Victim Witness Program can assist in the filing of the claim. Applications may be obtained from the Loudoun County Victim Witness Program or the Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund.
