The Loudoun County government is reaching out to members of the community who will be impacted by the closing of the Walmart store on Edwards Ferry Road in Leesburg. A new Walmart store is opening May 29, 2019, on Compass Creek Parkway, about four miles from the Edwards Ferry Road location.
The current Walmart store is located in the same shopping center as the county’s Shenandoah Building, which is home to some of the county’s human services agencies. Many of the agencies’ clients rely on the store for food, pharmacy services, clothing and other necessities. Additionally, many residents in the immediate vicinity rely on the proximity of the Walmart because their transportation options are limited to walking and public transportation.
The county is providing resources, available in English and Spanish, to raise awareness about the change and to help residents identify their options for shopping and transportation.
View, print or download these flyers:
- Find Local Resources: Alternatives to Walmart that are walkable; within 1 mile of the current location or accessible by public transit;
- Taking Loudoun County Transit Route 55: Information about Local Bus Route 55, which will be adding a new bus stop at the new Walmart location.
The county is also reminding residents not to cross Route 15 by foot and to use the Leesburg Safe-T-Ride, a free shuttle providing continuous service between locations on the east and west sides of Route 15. The Safe-T-Ride operates seven days a week: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
