The Sterling Library will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, April 15, 2017, at its new location: 22330 S. Sterling Boulevard, Suite A117 in the Sterling Plaza Shopping Center.

“We’re thrilled this beautiful and well-designed library will offer so many opportunities for all ages,” said Library Director Chang Liu. The new branch, located in the heart of Sterling, includes expanded space for library programs and community meetings, study rooms, reading and learning spaces for adults, teens and children, and increased access to computers.

It will also include a “maker space” where children, teens and adults can develop 21st century skills, including a recording studio and 3D printers. An enhanced library collection will feature books and other materials for ESOL and Spanish speakers.

The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting with music by World View of Park View High School, and a Town Hall at 11:00 a.m. with Sterling District Supervisor Koran Saines. Maker space demonstrations, library card signups, and activities for children and families will take place until 9:00 p.m.

The new Sterling Library will have extended opening hours. The first Loudoun County library branch to be open both Friday and Saturday evenings until 9:00 p.m., it will also be open Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The new library is nearly three times the size of the former facility, which was in operation since 1977.

In 2014, Loudoun County voters approved a referendum to relocate, renovate, expand and equip the Sterling Library. This project is part of the Sterling Public Facilities Master Plan, which also calls for the expansion of the Sterling Volunteer Fire and Rescue Station and the renovation and expansion of the Sterling Community Center into the former library space.

For more information, call the library at 571-258-3309.
