Update: 01/03/2024: Work has been delayed and will not begin January 4 as previously scheduled. The new start date will be posted here once available.

Original News Release

Beginning on or about Thursday, January 4, 2024, the segment of Arcola Mills Drive (Route 621) between Arcola Boulevard and Yardley Ridge Drive in Arcola will be closed to through traffic to widen the road. The start date of the project may be affected by the weather. A detour around the construction is expected to be in place through spring 2024. The Arcola Mills Drive project includes widening the road and installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Arcola Mills Drive and Arcola Boulevard. This project is one of several proffered transportation improvements provided by the developer of Arcola Center.

The detour route from eastbound Arcola Mills Drive will turn left onto Arcola Boulevard, turn right onto southbound Loudoun County Parkway, and then turn right onto Arcola Mills Drive. Drivers going northbound or southbound on Loudoun County Parkway who want to go westbound onto Arcola Mills Drive will turn onto Arcola Boulevard, then make a right turn. Vehicles traveling on westbound Old Ox Road who want to go westbound on Arcola Mills Drive should continue straight across Loudoun County Parkway to Arcola Boulevard and turn right onto Arcola Mills Drive. Drivers are encouraged to review the Arcola Mills Drive Traffic Pattern Detour Map (PDF) for guidance.

Electronic message boards will be posted to alert drivers about the detour. Additionally, signs and pavement markings will be installed to guide traffic through the detour. Drivers should use extra caution when traveling through this area and follow all directions from the posted signs and road crews.

The segment of Arcola Boulevard that is opening as part of the Arcola Mills Drive detour route will not provide access to Route 50. Arcola Boulevard will remain closed to traffic between Arcola Mills Drive and Dulles West Boulevard.
