During its December 5, 2023, meeting, the Loudoun Board of Supervisors approved the sale of 6.42 acres of county-owned property along Little River Turnpike (Route 50) in Aldie for $600,000 to the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC).
The property, known as the Aldie Assemblage, includes a historic tavern building as well as other structures.
The purchase agreement approved by the Board includes a provision allowing the county to lease, at no cost, a two-story garage and surrounding grounds on one of the three parcels included in the agreement. The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue System stores swift water rescue equipment in the garage and will continue to do so until the new Aldie Fire Station is complete and occupied. That parcel is adjacent to the existing Aldie Fire Station owned by the Aldie Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD). AVFD has agreed to allow the county to maintain a rescue vehicle on the shared property line until it is relocated to the new Aldie Fire Station.
The PEC is a nonprofit organization focused on conservation and preservation across the nine-county area where it operates. The PEC’s proposal for the property calls for a number of renovations, including to the existing tavern.
The Board’s vote authorizes the County Administrator to complete the purchase agreement and lease.
