WEAPON CHARGE SENDS PREVIOUSLY
CONVICTED FELON TO PRISON
JUDGE IMPOSES 3 YEARS
LEESBURG, Virginia – July 14, 2014. Jonathan A. Laite-Pourtorab, 21, of Sterling, appeared before the Circuit Court of Loudoun County, in custody, for sentencing on a charge of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Judge Benjamin N. A. Kendrick committed Laite-Pourtorab to the Virginia Department of Corrections for three years.
On January 15, 2014, deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to First Break Café in Sterling for a dispute between patrons. What started as a verbal altercation between two patrons at the bar quickly turned into something more serious when Laite-Pourtorab pulled a switch blade knife out of his pocket and pushed a button releasing the blade. A search of Laite-Pourtorab by deputies revealed the switch blade knife with a 4 ½ inch blade in his pocket. Laite-Pourtorab was subsequently arrested by deputies for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Laite-Pourtorab’s criminal history includes a felony conviction for arson and convictions for assault and battery and drunk in public. Additionally, Laite-Pourtorab had repeated criminal contact with the juvenile court system.
In addition to the total active sentence of three years, Kendrick imposed an additional two years of suspended time which could be revoked should he violate the terms of his supervised probation upon his release.
Laite-Pourtorab was also found guilty of a probation violation related to his 2012 arson case, for which Kendrick imposed three years of previously suspended time to be served concurrently with the new sentence.
