The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office investigation determines yesterday’s house fire in Aldie was due to an electrical wiring malfunction.

At 12:10 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2019, the Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting a house on fire in the 23,000 block of Sally Mill Road. Fire and rescue crews from Aldie, Middleburg, Brambleton, Dulles South, Philomont, and several command, safety and EMS units were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters arrived on scene arrived to find a large residence with heavy smoke and fire on the second floor and attic. With the heavy fire conditions present, additional resources were immediately requested bringing units from Leesburg, Moorefield, Hamilton, Ashburn, Prince William County, Fairfax County, and Fauquier County to the scene.

Firefighters quickly attacked the fire from the outside as they established a rural water shuttle because there were no hydrants in the area. Fire crews confirmed that the occupant had self-evacuated after the fire broke out. Firefighters continued to operate in a defensive mode until the structure was determined safe, at which point they entered the home to complete extinguishment and salvage belongings. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours attending to numerous hot spots.

The occupant was displaced and will be staying locally. The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office estimated the damages at $1,015,000.
