LOUDOUN COUNTY COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
LEESBURG, Virginia – May 3, 2019. The Loudoun County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) met this morning for the fifth time since its inception. This multi-disciplinary team was created to provide a coordinated, efficient, and supportive response to adult victims of sexual assault in Loudoun County.
Established in early 2018, the Loudoun SART meets quarterly and is comprised of the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Loudoun County Victim and Witness Assistance Program, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Leesburg Police Department, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter and the Inova Ewing Forensic Assessment and Consultation Department. These partner agencies are committed to strengthening the bond between victims and advocates, providing streamlined services to survivors, promoting policies and practices to increase arrests and prosecutions for criminal sexual assault, and supporting trauma informed care and evidence collection by healthcare professionals.
“The Sexual Assault Response Team is another example of the way that Loudoun County has sought to assist victims of crime in a holistic manner. When agencies throughout the County work together on issues such as sexual assault, the result is public safety and support of victims,” said Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nicole Wittmann.
Loudoun County is also home to a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) dedicated to supporting the needs of child victims of sexual or physical abuse.
