Blood Donors Wanted for Upcoming Loudoun Blood Drive Events

LCFR NEWS and ALERTS 8-2019

The Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System, Inova Loudoun Hospital and Inova Blood Donor Services encourage you to make a lifesaving appointment to donate at one of our upcoming community blood drives.

Did you know that hemorrhage is the number one cause of death from trauma? Or that on average, a trauma patient requires 25-75 units of red cells? According to Inova Blood Donor Services, over 200 units of blood and blood components are required daily to support the diverse communities we serve in Northern Virginia.

In an innovative new program, lifesaving blood products are being taken out of a hospital trauma center and transported directly to entrapped patients at the accident scene. Initiated by Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, the Virginia Office of EMS and Inova Hospital, the Field Available Component Transfusion Response (FACT*R) program allows trained paramedics to transport and administer blood products in the field. The success of the FACT*R program is directly impacted by the availability of blood products from Inova Blood Donor Services. “Any blood products donated through Inova stay local, right here in Northern Virginia, so the gift of blood donation at any of these events truly is an example of neighbors helping neighbors,” says Fire Chief Keith H. Johnson. “By taking an hour from your busy schedule, you have the ability to make a direct impact on your Loudoun County community.”  Make your appointment today to donate blood at one of our upcoming community blood drives!
