October Fire Prevention Month Events

Fire prevention month 2019

Loudoun County’s Combined Fire and Rescue System will be hosting various open houses and community events throughout October in honor of Fire Prevention Month. These free, family friendly events allow Loudoun’s citizens to visit local fire stations and enjoy activities geared toward fire prevention, safety and community awareness.

The majority of fire deaths occur at home each year with, on average, seven people dying in home fires per day from 2012 to 2016.  This startling statistic from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) inspired this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!”

Studies show that in a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of that limited time. Attend any of our October Fire Prevention Month Open Houses below to learn more about home fire escape planning and how to keep your family fire safe!
