[ARCHIVED] Jamin Davis Reckless Driving Case Continued to August 31, 2023

On August 3, 2023, the Commonwealth v. Jamin Davis was scheduled for a review in the Loudoun County Circuit Court. The matter was continued to August 31, 2023.

On March 28, 2022, Jamin Davis was charged with the offense of reckless driving by speed, alleging Davis drove his vehicle at a speed of 114 mph in a 45-mph zone. On May 26, 2022, Davis was convicted of reckless driving and sentenced to 30 days in jail. Davis appealed the conviction, and the matter was transferred from the General District Court to the Circuit Court for Loudoun County for a jury trial.

“In consideration of any resolution in a criminal or traffic matter, our team prioritizes safety. When an accused elects to exercise their constitutional right to a trial by a jury, this allows our community to educate us on what they believe is an appropriate consequence to certain violations of law. With each jury, we are informed of the community standards and stance on certain behaviors. Over the years, juries that participated in reckless driving by speed cases, upon finding the driver guilty as charged, returned a fine-only sentence. The most recent such case resulted in a finding of guilty for reckless driving by speed, driving 111 mph in a 55-mph zone, and a punishment of a fine of $1,800.00 – no jail. These results are part of the factors taken into consideration when we consider resolutions,” said Buta Biberaj, Commonwealth's Attorney for Loudoun.

Biberaj stated, “We are grateful for the time and dedication of our Loudoun County citizens. Serving as a juror is the most powerful way to participate in the judicial process and to ensure that the voice of the community is heard. We appreciate the hard work of our law enforcement partners in keeping our community safe, and our assistant commonwealth’s attorneys for their diligence.
