[ARCHIVED] Franklin Carcamo Giron Sentenced For 2001 Rape Of A Child

Loudoun County Circuit Court Judge Douglas L. Fleming sentenced Franklin Carcamo Giron to serve fifty years in prison for raping a twelve-year-old child in 2001. Carcamo Giron was granted a bond and fled the United States after being indicted on December 10, 2001. He evaded justice until his extradition from El Salvador in August, 2022. On March 23, 2023, Carcamo Giron pleaded guilty to the rape of a child under the age of 13.

The Virginia Sentencing Guidelines recommended a sentence range between 9 years and 19 years and 4 months. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jaweria M. Siyal requested that the court sentence Carcamo Giron above the recommended range, arguing the egregious facts of the case and Carcamo Giron’s flight warranted a sentence above the guidelines. Ms. Siyal further argued to the court that while the defendant was out living the life he wanted to live, the victim was left with ruined childhood and stolen innocence.

“This result could not have been achieved without the coordination and support of the Department of Justice, the FBI, the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security, the Leesburg Police Department and other agencies,” said Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj. “Additionally, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is indebted to the retired police officers and medical personnel who were willing to assist with the prosecution of this matter. We hope that the victim can now close this chapter of her life and find some measure of peace.”

The prosecution was led by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Anna Hammond and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jaweria Siyal.

Pursuant to Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry Act, Carcamo Giron will also be required to register as a sex offender. Information about the Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry and those on it can be found on the Virginia State Police website.
