New Names Selected for Segments of Fort Johnston Road

As part of Loudoun County’s road renaming initiative, property owners along Fort Johnston Road are being notified by letter that new names have been identified for the road’s two segments. 

  • The segment of Fort Johnston Road between Alysheba Drive and Leeland Orchard Road will be renamed Leeland Orchard Road. 
  • The remaining segment will be renamed Fort Star Lane. Property owners submitted name suggestions; eligible names were then circulated for a vote. The name with the most votes was “Fort Star,” which was proposed in recognition of the fort’s star-shaped, earthen construction.

The renaming of Fort Johnston Road will not become official until the fall of 2023. Loudoun County will notify each property owner by letter 60 days in advance of the official change. 

The renaming follows the Board of Supervisors’ decision to inventory and review Confederate and segregationist symbols in the county. More information about the initiative is online at loudoun.gov/roadrenaming.
