Selma Estates Project Update: April 21, 2022

Project Update: April 21, 2022

Several departments are currently working to establish a county grant fund that would allow for the remaining eligible properties to perform their own mitigation with financial assistance from the County. There are several steps required to establish the grant fund including the adoption of a new County ordinance. The ordinance is currently in development.

It is staff’s intention that the proposed County ordinance and proposed guidelines for the Selma Estates Flood Mitigation Project, requested earlier this year, will be brought to the Board this summer (June or July). If both are adopted by the Board, staff will begin implementing the proposed Selma Estates Flood Mitigation Project immediately..

If you have questions regarding the next steps in this process, please contact Maggie Auer, project manager, by email or call 703-777-0222.

Project Update: April 13, 2022

At its April 5, 2022 business meeting, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the terms of proposed settlement agreements with three homeowners in the Selma Estates neighborhood. Under these agreements, the county would receive title to one property and easements over the two other properties, as well as the release of active or potential claims against the County.

The county is planning to convey the property to which it will receive title to the Selma Estates HOA, reserving an easement, after the home has been demolished and flood mitigation facilities installed.

In order to allow other affected property owners to sell easements over their properties to the county or to perform their own mitigation using county grant funding, the county is currently exploring additional funding options that will comply with applicable state codes.
