Right-of-Way Activities for the Sterling Boulevard Extension Set for Late 2023 Completion

Posted on April 19, 2023 at 4:34 PM by Heidi Kellum

The Right-of-Way phase for the Sterling Boulevard Extension project is currently set to be completed in late fall 2023. This project provides for the design, right-of-way acquisition and construction of the extension of Sterling Boulevard from Pacific Boulevard to Moran Road (Route 634). The Utilities Phase is estimated to begin in summer 2023 and continue into summer 2024. More information about Loudoun County Capital Project phases is provided at loudoun.gov/capitalprojects.

The extension of Sterling Boulevard will be a four-lane urban major connector with divided median, associated turn lanes, and a sidewalk/shared used path on one side of the road. Loudoun County and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are funding the project budget. Per a Board of Supervisors endorsement on January 19, 2021, the road name will be changed to Shellhorn Road for the portion of Sterling Boulevard west of Route 28. Signage and structures will be changed to reflect the new roadway name.

When completed, this project will improve access to the Loudoun Gateway Metrorail Station and connect with Shellhorn Road.

Posted on September 4, 2020 at 2:30 PM by Heidi Kellum

In May 2020, 95% plans for the Sterling Boulevard Extension project and plats for right of way (ROW) dedication were submitted to Loudoun County Building and Development (B&D) for review.

In the next quarter, 100% design plans will be developed and plats will be finalized based on B&D comments. Land acquisition will begin with the approval of the plats.

This project provides for the design, right-of-way acquisition and construction of the extension of Sterling Boulevard from Pacific Boulevard to Moran Road (Route 634). The roadway will be a four lane urban major connector with divided median, associated turn lanes, a shared used path on one side of the road and a sidewalk on the other.

When completed, this project will improve access to the Loudoun Gateway Metrorail Station.
