Traffic Delays for Utility Relocation to Continue Through Mid-November

Posted on October 3, 2023 at 11:21 AM by Heidi Kellum

Drivers should expect delays at the intersection of Waxpool Road (Route 625) and Pacific Boulevard and Broderick Drive through mid-November. Washington Gas is continuing work to relocate their gas main in preparation for the County’s intersection improvement project. Until this work is complete, single-lane closures on both Pacific Blvd and Waxpool Road are possible. Drivers are advised to take extra caution when traveling through this area and follow all directions from the posted signs and road crews.

To avoid delays, an alternative route around the construction is suggested for southbound motorists. See alternate route map.

The completion of the utility relocation phase for the Waxpool Road at the Pacific Boulevard/Broderick Drive Intersection project has been taking longer than expected due to the discovery of unmarked utilities (including a complex telecom infrastructure), general labor shortages, the condition of the existing gas main, and coordination of a multitude of utility projects within the Waxpool Road area. This phase is expected to be complete in fall 2023.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin in late winter 2024. More information about Loudoun County Capital Project phases is provided at loudoun.gov/capitalprojects.

This project provides for the design, ROW acquisition and construction of intersection improvements and turn lanes at Waxpool Road and Pacific Boulevard and Broderick Drive. In addition to the construction of intersection improvements and turn lanes at Waxpool Road and Pacific Boulevard and Broderick Drive, the project scope includes expanded turn lanes at Pacific Boulevard from Columbia Place, AOL Drive and Broderick Drive. It also includes modifications to allow right turns on a red signal on Pacific Boulevard at Waxpool Road, traffic signal modifications and improvements to the pedestrian network along Pacific Boulevard south of Waxpool Road. The project is currently estimated for substantial completion in fall 2025.

Drivers are advised to take extra caution when traveling through this area and follow all directions from the posted signs and road crews.

To avoid delays, an alternative route around the construction is suggested for southbound motorists. See alternate route map.
