Posted on April 12, 2024 at 12:16 PM by Heidi Kellum

Beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 through Monday morning, April 15, 2024, temporary lane closures are anticipated along northbound and southbound lanes of Route 15, north of Leesburg as part of the Route 15 North widening project. Crews will be coring the asphalt to verify the depths of the existing paving.

While work is occurring, traffic will be temporarily slowed or stopped in the work zone areas, which include:

  • The intersection of Route 15 and Selma Lane
  • The intersection of Route 15 and Limestone School Road
  • Near the intersection of Route 15 and Montressor Road

Drivers are reminded to use caution and follow directions from road signs and crews when traveling in active work zones. Drive slowly and remain alert to new traffic patterns by limiting distractions.

The Route 15 North widening project includes the design, land acquisition, utility relocation and construction to widen Route 15 from two to four lanes between Battlefield Parkway and Montresor Road. The project also includes a shared use path along the west side of Route 15 between North King Street and Montresor Road continuing along the west side of North King Street from Route 15 to Dry Hollow Road. The improvements will improve traffic operations, congestion and enhance safety along this segment of the road. The project will be implemented in phases. Phase I will incorporate the road widening between Battlefield Parkway and Whites Ferry Road. Phase II will incorporate the roadway widening between Whites Ferry Road and Montresor Road, the relocation of Limestone School Road and construction of the roundabout at Montresor Road.

Design Work Continues on Route 15 North Widening

Posted on June 7, 2023 at 1:32 PM by Heidi Kellum

Loudoun County’s design team has been working with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Loudoun County Department of Building and Development (B&D), and the Town of Leesburg (Town), to gain their approval of the project’s Phase I – Route 15 North: Battlefield Parkway and Whites Ferry Road roadway design plans and Big Springs floodplain alteration. The Big Springs floodplain study was approved by B&D in March 2023. Plats have been reviewed once by B&D and are being resubmitted to B&D for approval in preparation for land acquisition which is estimated to begin in summer 2023 and last through spring 2025. Coordination with utility companies is being finalized to relocate utilities affected by the proposed roadway.

For Phase II – Route 15 North:  Whites Ferry Road and Montresor Road of the project, the design team is developing the 90% roadway design plans, the Limestone Branch floodplain alteration, and the plans for the bridge that will span Limestone Branch. The design team is also refining context sensitive design elements for the corridor.

The Route 15 North widening project includes the design, land acquisition, utility relocation and construction to widen Route 15 from two to four lanes between Battlefield Parkway and Montresor Road. The project also includes a shared use path along the west side of Route 15 between North King Street and Montresor Road continuing along the west side of North King Street from Route 15 to the Dry Hollow Road.
