Since the project’s inception in summer 2022, Loudoun County has received many questions about the project to design and construct a passive park around the Leesburg Country Club Subdivision and along Country Club Drive in Leesburg. The Westpark Improvement project is currently in the design phase and is scheduled for construction to begin in summer (July/August/September) 2026. More information about Loudoun County Capital Project phases is provided at loudoun.gov/capitalprojects.
Property Update
Over the last several weeks, Loudoun County has completed the bi-annual rough-cut mowing of the property. The next scheduled rough-cut mowing will take place in October 2023. Crews have also installed signage to prohibit motorized vehicle usage on the Westpark property, such as motorbikes and scooters.
In the coming weeks, area residents may notice an arborist walking the site to evaluate the condition of the site trees. Maintenance crews will also continue to mow grass located approximately 20 feet from residential property lines and a four-foot swath along both sides of the former golf cart paths, weekly through October 2023.
As a reminder, the existing golf cart paths are open to the public for running, walking and biking during the design and construction of the park.
About the Project
In August 2022, Loudoun County purchased 134 acres of the former Westpark Golf Course that was located along Country Club Drive in Leesburg. The county-owned land has been placed into a conservation easement, which will preserve the natural landscape. The Westpark Improvements project includes the design and construction of a passive park. A typical passive park may consist of walking and biking trails and include many natural and minimally disturbed areas.
Funding for the project in the amount of $13.4 million is included in the county's Capital Improvement Program (PDF). The project has an estimated completion date of 2027.
