15 High Priority Intersections Now in the Design Phase for Improvements

Posted on August 14, 2023 at 3:18 PM by Heidi Kellum

The Intersection Improvement Program (IIP) now includes 15 high priority intersections in the design phase for future improvements. For the last several months, the program team has been conducting traffic analysis studies for high priority intersections as directed by the Board of Supervisors at the October 18, 2022 Business Meeting. In the coming weeks, the program team will begin a review of future conditions to further guide their recommendations for improvements.

To date, four intersection improvement projects have been completed through the IIP program. View a listing of intersection improvement projects currently underway on Loudoun’s website at Intersection Improvement Program

About the Intersection Improvement Program

Loudoun County’s Intersection Improvement Program was established in 2017 to pro-actively address traffic safety and operational challenges on roadways within the County. It also identifies cost-effective solutions to enhance safety for all users, including pedestrians and bicyclists. This program provides funding for the installation of intersection improvements, including roundabouts.

Intersections identified for improvement as part of this program are located along arterial or collector roadways per the Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP). These roadways allow residents to access schools, public transportation and other areas of interest. The Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure developed a data-driven plan for the IIP to identify and prioritize intersections along CTP roadways. Intersection improvement projects are initiated and advanced to the design and implementation phases based on the most significant needs.
