Westpark Improvements Project Begins the 35% Design Plans Phase

Posted on November 3, 2023 at 9:43 AM by Heidi Kellum

In October 2023, the Westpark Improvements project to design and construct a passive park on the county-owned land located on the former Westpark Golf Course adjacent to the Leesburg Country Club Subdivision and Country Club Drive began the 35% Design Plans phase. This phase is when the major design elements of the project are developed and the project’s scope, schedule and budget are refined. For more information about facility project phases and milestones, visit About Project & Study Phases.

Over the next several months, area residents will see design consultants and their equipment on the Westpark property conducting various surveys, tests, and inspections to further inform the design process. Residents should anticipate a decline in the presence of maintenance crews until spring due to the completion of seasonal weekly and rough-cut grass mowing, scheduled for October and November.

About the Project

In August 2022, Loudoun County purchased 134 acres of the former Westpark Golf Course that was located along Country Club Drive in Leesburg. The county-owned land has been placed into a conservation easement, which will preserve the natural landscape. The Westpark Improvements project includes the design and construction of a passive park. A typical passive park may consist of walking and biking trails, disc golf areas, and include many natural and minimally disturbed areas.

Funding for the project in the amount of $13.4 million is included in the county's Capital Improvement Program (Fiscal Year 2023 - Fiscal Year 2028) with completion of the passive park construction expected in spring 2028.

More information—including a link to sign up for email and text updates on the project—is posted on the Loudoun County website at loudoun.gov/westparkproperty.
