Loudoun Continues to Develop Design Plans

Posted on February 15, 2024 at 9:36 AM by Heidi Kellum

Loudoun County is working on developing the 100% design plans for the Sterling Boulevard/W&OD Overpass project. This project is located along public park property owned by NOVA Parks, crossing the public right of way of Sterling Boulevard that is maintained by VDOT. The design phase requires extensive coordination with both agencies as well as the owners of multiple utilities. The design phase is estimated to be completed by fall 2024.

Once complete, the overpass will remove the W&OD Trail’s last at-grade crossing of a four-lane roadway in Loudoun County.

The proposed project provides for the design and construction of a W&OD Trail pedestrian/bike bridge over Sterling Boulevard (Route 846). Sterling Boulevard is Loudoun County’s only four-lane roadway that crosses the W&OD Trail at grade. When complete, the pedestrian/bike overpass will separate pedestrians, bicyclists, horseback riders and other users of the W&OD Trail from roadway traffic on Sterling Boulevard.
