April is Fair Housing Month

Posted on April 8, 2024 at 2:37 PM by Nancy McCormick

April 2024 marks the 56th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability and familial status.

Regional Fair Housing Plan

Loudoun County and seven other area jurisdictions developed a Regional Fair Housing Plan and submitted the plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in January 2024. The collaboration among the members of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments marks the first time in 25 years that local jurisdictions have joined together on a similar effort.

The plan includes an analysis of impediments to fair housing choice across the region and provides strategies to increase access to safe and affordable housing, increase investment and resources in priority areas, and create more inclusive communities.
