• Total Vaccine Doses Administered - Loudoun: 556,665 (up 10,802 since last report) I  Virginia: 11,551,524 (up 302,533 since last report)

Loudoun County Update

• Vaccine for Children Ages 5-11: Approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 could come within days. An advisory committee to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet Tuesday, November 2, to consider whether to recommend the vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. This comes after the Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of the vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. Once the committee makes recommendations, the CDC director will decide whether to adopt them. If approved, the CDC will then issue guidance to state health departments regarding the use of this vaccine. Then, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) will decide whether to adopt the CDC recommendation and authorize local health districts such as Loudoun, pharmacies and medical offices to begin vaccinating children age 5 and older. VDH has been planning for administration of vaccine to this new age group and is expected to adopt the recommendation very soon after the CDC does, likely less than 24 hours after receiving the CDC recommendation. Once Loudoun County is able to vaccinate children ages 5 to 11, the county will publish an announcement and open up appointments for this age group in the online appointment system for those who want their children vaccinated at the Dulles Town Center location.
• Who Can Get Vaccinated Now: Loudoun County continues to offer COVID-19 vaccination appointments for residents who are 12 and older and have not yet received their first and/or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine as well as residents who are moderately and severely immunocompromised individuals and are recommended by the CDC for a third dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. In addition, Loudoun County is now offering booster doses of the Johnson & Johnson, Moderna & Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for certain individuals as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and authorized by the Food and Drug Administration and the Virginia Department of Health. Also, people who are eligible for a booster vaccine may use the 'mix-and-match' approach - receiving a different brand of vaccine for the booster than they did for their initial series. Booster shots are available by appointment only at the county's Dulles Town Center clinic. Find out more at loudoun.gov/COVID19vaccine.
• COVID-19 Testing Wednesday, November 3: This week's Loudoun County-sponsored COVID-19 testing event will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2021, instead of the usual Tuesday due to the November 2 general election. The testing will take place at Claude Moore Park, 46150 Loudoun Park Lane in Sterling, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The drive-thru event is free and open to all. Required registration forms can be filled out ahead of time. You can find links to the forms as well as a schedule of testing events online at loudoun.gov/COVID19testing.
