Loudoun County to Test Ballfield Lighting at Lovettsville Community Park

Posted on July 29, 2021 at 2:59 PM by Heidi Kellum

During the week of August 16, 2021, weather permitting, Loudoun County will perform light level testing in the evening hours at the new Lovettsville Community Park ballfields. The test is part of the ongoing project to construct this 90-acre park facility located near East Broadway, Lovettsville Road and Milltown Road in Lovettsville. Residents will notice increased activity at the park prior to the testing date.

During the light level testing, ballfield lights will be turned on and off and dimmed. The County will begin testing at dusk and will continue for several hours. If inclement weather delays testing, plans call for tests to begin on each successive workday following August 20 until the testing can be completed.

The construction project includes improvements to the southern entrance and a new asphalt play area at Lovettsville Elementary School. Other additions to the park site include site lighting, athletic field lighting, athletic field irrigation systems, fencing, retaining walls, athletic field accessories, flag poles, utility infrastructure, storm water grading, piping, and landscaping.

Over the last several weeks, crews have completed installing the parking lot and roadway lighting and finished work on the irrigation pond and well. Permanent power has been established for the entire park. In the coming weeks work at the ballfields will continue as construction crews install fencing and the County conducts light level testing. Construction on the facility is scheduled for completion by fall 2021.

When complete, Lovettsville Community Park facilities will include equestrian trails, walking trails, off-leash areas, a pond, and amphitheater. It will also include four softball/baseball fields, three soccer fields and an equestrian area. The park will be operated by the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services.
