Loudoun County, VA (April 25, 2024): Eight members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) were recognized today by the prestigious Virginia Sheriff’s Institute (VSI) Certification Program.
The VSI Certification Program recognizes the ideals of professionalism that come from experience and judgment, as demonstrated through standards of achievement, including education, work experience, training, and professional development. Certification through this voluntary program recognizes the individual’s knowledge and commitment to excellence, life-long learning, and advancement of the public safety profession.
LCSO personnel certified include Captain Robert Brown, 2nd Lieutenant Andrew Johnson, 2nd Lieutenant Jeffrey Haig, Detective Ryan Schmidt, and Deputy First Class Gloria Turin.
Also recognized were LCSO personnel who achieved recertification this year: Major David Hill, 1st Lieutenant Milton Castelle, and 2nd Lieutenant Laurence Vermeer.
“I am proud that members of our team continue to seek and achieve certification by the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute, and that we lead Virginia in total certifications,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “It is further testament to the dedication and professional commitment to excellence of our agency and sworn personnel.”
Thirty-four members of the LCSO have been certified or recertified since the inaugural VSI Certification Program class in 2018.
The VSI, in cooperation with the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA), the Performance Management Group at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and the Virginia Center for Policing Innovation (VCPI), developed the VSI Certification Program to promote, recognize and elevate the continued individual professional development of Virginia’s sheriffs and deputies.
