FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Loudoun County, VA (November 8, 2019)- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office graduated three members of the agency’s leadership staff, including the first-ever civilian staff member, from the 45th session of the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS).

2nd Lieutenant Collette Cunningham, a 17-year veteran of the agency, 2nd Lt. Jeffrey Haig, a 12-year veteran, and Chandra Evans, a 26-year veteran of the agency, graduated Thursday from the intensive three-week leadership education program.

“The PELS Program ensures our leadership staff will continue to receive training at the highest levels. Participating in this program increases the professionalism of all of our leadership staff and enables the agency to network with other large law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman.

2nd Lt. Cunningham serves as a supervisor in patrol in the agency’s Field Operations Division. 2nd Lt. Haig is a shift supervisor at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center in the Corrections Division. Ms. Evans is the Program Manager for Property, Evidence, and Records in the Administrative/Technical Services Division.  She is the first-ever civilian employee from the LCSO to graduate from the leadership school.

The PELS program is conducted in cooperation with the University of Richmond. This program is designed for individuals who currently serve in command/executive-level positions within their agencies. The curriculum is liberal-arts/humanities-based and focused on the study of leadership at an advanced level. The objective of this program is to acquaint participants with best practices in leadership, challenge them to reflect upon their own leadership competency, and examine ways of achieving both personal and professional growth.

The classes are held on the campus of the University of Richmond, and faculty members from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, teach the classes. They are drawn from the Robins School of Business, the Management Institute, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, and several other schools within the university.
