FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Loudoun County, VA (November 28, 2019): An Ashburn man is in custody following a several hour standoff when he refused to leave his home after deputies responded to the area for a gunfire complaint.

Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Deputies initially responded to the 20200 block of MacGlashan Terrace around 8:40 a.m. this morning. A resident reported finding a discharged round from a firearm had entered their home through a shared wall with another residence. The incident is believed to have occurred during the overnight but was not discovered until this morning.

As deputies attempted to make contact with a subject next door he became disorderly and refused commands by law enforcement to exit the home. Members of the LCSO Crisis Negotiations Team established contact with the subject who was seen carrying a firearm inside the home. After continued conversations the subject exited the home and was taken into custody.

Bernard R. Ofori 30, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and reckless handling of a firearm. Ofori is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

Members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiations Unit, the Special Operations Section, the Criminal Investigations Division, K-9 Unit, and Patrol responded to the scene and secured the area.  Several residents in adjacent homes were evacuated as a precaution. The residents were taken to Belmont Station Elementary School for safety.
