LCSO Holds 12th Community Resource Fair, Sees Continued Decrease in Recidivism

Loudoun County, VA – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office held their 12th community resource fair today for Loudoun inmates housed at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The event was hosted by the Loudoun Re-Entry Advisory Council and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and was held inside the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The fair is made available to those low-risk inmates within six months of release, who volunteer to participate. “The resource fair provides inmates an opportunity to educate themselves on the outreach programs available to them in our community,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “Our hope is that they will find the resources they need before they are released from the detention center, to help them with a successful transition back into our community,” Chapman added.

Upon taking office seven years ago, Sheriff Chapman began to apply comprehensive education and rehabilitation programs inside the Adult Detention Center. As a result, Loudoun County experienced a steady reduction in recidivism — decreasing 10% since 2012.

Today, 40 Loudoun County inmates met with 22 representatives from several community organizations and government agencies. Services featured include preparing inmates to successfully re-enter the community and to bridge or connect services to increase their chances of success and reduce recidivism.

The community resource fair for inmates is a biannual event.
