LCSO Graduates Two from Professional Executive Leadership School

Pelscanva

Loudoun County, VA – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office graduated two members of the agency’s leadership staff from the 44th session of the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS).

1st Lieutenant Chris Geraghty, a nearly 30-year veteran of the agency, and 1st Lieutenant David Hill, an 11-year veteran of the agency, graduated Thursday from the intensive three-week leadership education program.

1st Lt. Hill was recognized during today’s ceremony as the recipient of PELS Graduate Leadership Award. This is awarded to the student who demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities and exhibits a sincere desire to support and encourage others. This recognition was awarded to Lt. Hill through a vote of his peers.

“The PELS Program ensures our leadership staff will continue to receive training at the highest levels. Participating in this program increases the professionalism of our leadership staff and enables the agency to network with other large law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth,” said Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman.

1st Lt. Chris Geraghty serves as a duty officer in the Corrections/Court Services Division and is assigned to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. 1st Lt. Hill is the Assistant Station Commander of the LCSO Ashburn Station.

The PELS program is conducted in cooperation with the University of Richmond. This program is designed for individuals who currently serve in command/executive level positions within their agencies. The curriculum is liberal-arts/humanities based and focused on the study of leadership at an advanced level. The objective of this program is to acquaint participants with best practices in leadership, challenge them to reflect upon their own leadership competency, and examine ways of achieving both personal and professional growth.

The classes are held on the campus of the University of Richmond, and faculty members from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, teach the classes. They are drawn from the Robins School of Business, the Management Institute, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, and several other schools within the university.
