Victim in Ashburn Assault Succumbs to Injuries, Suspect Charged with Second Degree Murder
Loudoun County, VA (Updated Release 8/23/2022): On Sunday, the victim of the August 14 assault on Waterpointe Terrace, Pedro Casalez Cala, 38, of Ashburn, passed away at Reston Hospital.
The suspect in the case, Ever R. Cruz, 24, of Ashburn was extradited back to Loudoun County today from the Frederick County Adult Detention Center in Maryland and has been charged with Second Degree Murder.
Cruz is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Loudoun County, VA (August 15, 2022) – Earlier today, deputies from the Frederick County, Maryland, Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) assisted the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and successfully executed a search and seizure warrant and detained assault suspect, Ever Cruz, age 24, from Ashburn, Virginia.
Cruz faces charges in connection with the assault that occurred yesterday morning in the 45100 block of Waterpointe Terrace in Ashburn. LCSO detectives identified Cruz as the suspect through their investigation and obtained a warrant for Aggravated Malicious Wounding. The LCSO in collaboration with the FCSO, apprehended Cruz, at approximately 9 a.m., in the area of New Design Road and Manor Woods Road. Shortly thereafter, FCSO and LCSO deputies executed a search warrant in the 1900 block of Greenfield Road, in Frederick.
Cruz is currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, pending extradition.
The victim in this case remains in critical condition, suffering from life-threatening injuries.

LCSO Investigates Assault in Ashburn
Loudoun County, VA (August 14, 2022) – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault that occurred early this morning in the Ashburn area.
This morning at approximately 3:08 a.m., LCSO Deputies responded to the 45100 block of Waterpointe Terrace in Ashburn, for the report of an injured person. Upon arrival deputies located an adult male who was assaulted and suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The male was transported to a local area hospital.
We are asking for the public’s assistance and to call the LCSO if anyone saw suspicious activity between the hours of 1:30 a.m. to 3:10 a.m. in the area of Waterpointe Terrace.
